Jim Van Orden, principal, VOCOMMJim Van Orden, who has more than 36 years experience in journalism, marketing communications and public relations, specializes in public relations planning, writing and media relations. As one of the founding principals of Van Orden Communications, Inc., he has represented a variety of companies in the energy, software, travel, telephone equipment, computer, manufacturing and communications industries. Jim has worked for newspapers and magazines, non-profit organizations, corporations and public relations firms. His competencies include high-tech writing, media strategies and placement activities, and crisis PR. He has been editor of several state, national and international publications, including AT&T’s employee newspapers and management journals. Prior to retiring from a 23-year AT&T career in 1998, Jim was the company’s media relations director for the Southwest. While at AT&T he also served as its marketing communications director in Texas, and won numerous awards for marketing-oriented PR programs. In 1995, Texas Governor George W. Bush presented him “The Governor’s Award For Environmental Excellence” for his work as chairman of the state’s first “Clean Industries 2000 Team.” Jim holds BA and MA Degrees in Journalism from The University of Miami and The University of Alabama, respectively.
